Mensa International - High IQ Society

Have you ever heard of the group called "Mensa International" or its short form "Mensa"? Basically, Mensa is a community only for those who are worthy and have an outstanding level of IQ. Mensa is considered the biggest and oldest for this group community in the world.

The establishment of national Mensa all over the world has provided flexibility to its members when it comes to organizing activities and events which also allowed a big portion of funds to be channeled among the Mensa groups. Only those who have an IQ of the top 2% of the population will be eligible to join this community.

History of Mansa Establishment

Roland Berill and Dr. Lance Ware founded Mensa back in 1946 in England. According to American Mensa, Ltd., the Latin word "mensa" has several meanings some of which include, mind, table, and moon.

Mensa has existed as a discussion platform for very genius individuals to meet each month. Now, Mensa International is an international organization with around 100,000 members in 100 countries worldwide.

The Mensan (the name of Mensan's members) population is of various backgrounds. Men, women, and children with different types of national backgrounds, cultures, religions, and social economics belong to Mensa.
The working professions and professionals are also different ranging from police officers, housewives, scientists, truck drivers, medical professionals, farmers, artists, and many more that are qualified to join this group bases on their IQ scores. 

Despite the age range of Mensan between four to 90+ years old, two dominant groups are between 14 to 33 and 34 to 53 years old.

Criteria For Entry

There is only 1 criterion to be registered as a Mensan; every individual must have a very high IQ which can be tested in one special exam. This IQ test was designed to measure the general ability of the person to solve problems as well as grasp the concept.

This includes everything from reasoning, to problem-solving, the ability to see the relationship between something as well as the ability to obtain and save information. Mensa has set the IQ bar very high in which only above the 98th percentile will the person passes.

This means you must obtain a score of more than 98% for you to be able to pass the same test that everybody takes. To get approved as a Mensan, one must take "The Mensa Admission Test" or submit a marking test from other IQ tests that are accepted putting you in the top 2% of the highest marks.

Other tests that are accepted include the California Test of Mental Maturity, Wechsler Adult and Children Scales, SAT, LSAT, and GRE.

Benefits of Joining Mensa


Some of the perks received by being a member of this community vary from country and certain countries offer insurance plans and even credit cards. Most of the national organizations will publish articles monthly or quarterly and some parts will have meetings to discuss general things and form Special Interest Groups (SIG).

These groups might be different depending on their purposes from providing advice regarding local issues to creating support mechanisms for scholarship programs. Despite this group trying to be political-free, it still supports education initiatives.

Communications also exist between Mensan of different countries opening to exchange of ideas and help.

Mensa Popular Member

To this day, Anushka Dixit, an English girl aged 11 years old that comes from India has made history when she became one of the Mensans with the highest IQ. This young girl has proven to the world that she is smarter than Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking.

Meanwhile, two young individuals were accepted into Mensa namely Ben Woods and Georgia Brown who are both ages 2 years and 9 months. It is without a doubt that Mensa has attracted many famous thinkers out there and some of them have served as the head of this organization.

Some of the popular individuals that have become Mensan will be the architect, Buckminster Fuller, and the author, Isaac Asimov who both served as President and Vice President of Mensa International.

Other well-known Mensan will be Scott Adams, cartoon enthusiast Dilbert and artist James Woods.
