There are many popular statues or monuments around the globe like the Statue of Liberty in the United States of America and the Sphinx in Egypt. But both of these are far much smaller when compared with some of the tallest statues in the world.

Not all of these statues were built for religious purposes as some of them act as symbolic gratitude to particular figures for their contributions. Here we would like to share with you the top 7 tallest statues out there.

7. Guishan Guanyin, China (99 Meters)

Guishan Guanyin is located in Ningxiang, Hunan region, and happens to be the 4th tallest statue in China and 7th in the world with a height of 99 meters. This statue can be found at the Miyin temple which is a Chan Buddhist temple.

It is a bronze monument layered with gold that pictures the manifestation of Bodhisattva Guanyin that is also known as Shiyimian Qianshou Guanyin. The district government of Ningshan with the help of local businesses and religious organizations invested 260 million yuan to complete its construction in 2009.

6. Sendai Daikannon, Japan (100 Meters)

Sendai Daikannon or officially known as Sendai Tendou Byakue Daikannon is a huge statue of Byakue Kannon that has two hands and is located in Sendai, Japan. As of now, this statue sits in 6th place among the tallest statues in the world.

Interestingly enough, with a height of 100 meters, this statue once was known as the tallest one in the world as it was fully built back in 1991. However, it all quickly changed after many taller statues were built later on.

5. Ushiku Daibutsu, Japan (100 Meters)

Ushiku Daibutsu is a statue located in Ushiku, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. The construction was fully completed in 1993 as it has a height of 120 meters including its 10-meter base and 10-meter platform.

This statue once holds the record for being the tallest statue in the world from 1993 until 2008 and now sits at 5th place among them all. A lift carries visitors up 85 meters to the top so that they can enjoy the mesmerizing view around.

This statue symbolizes the Amitabha Buddha and is made from bronze. It was built to commemorate the birth of Shinran, the founder of Jōdo Shinshū's "True Pure Land School", the religion of Buddha.

4. Statue of Belief, India (106 Meters)

This statue happens to be the newest one yet to be built in 2020 and sits at the 4th rank of the tallest in the world with a height of 106 meters. Not just that, it is also the tallest shiva statue in the world.

This statue pictures Shiva that is currently sitting down and it can be found in Nathdwara, Rajasthan, India. The building of this statue started in April 2013 and its iconic structure was built with 2500 tonnes of steel layered with the highest quality of copper out there.

3. Laykyun Sekkya Buddha, Myanmar (116 Meters)

The Laykyun Sekkya Buddha is the third tallest statue in the world with a height of 116 meters. This statue stands on top of a throne as high as 13.5 meters that is located in the Khatakan Taung village close to Monywa, Myanmar.

Its construction was initiated in 1996 and fully completed on 21 February 2008. It once holds the record of the tallest statue in the world for several months before the Spring Temple  Buddha was completed in September 2008. The Laykyun Skkya pictures the Gautama Buddha standing atop.

2. Spring Temple Buddha, China (182 Meters)

The Spring Temple Buddha is a big statue that symbolizes the Vairocana Buddha that is located in Zhaocun in the Lushan District, Henan, China. The construction started in 1997 and was fully completed in 2009. This statue has a height of 153 meters if the base was not accounted for.

Overall, this project was estimated to be worth around $55 million of which $18 million were the cost of the stature alone. It was originally planned to comprise 1,110 pieces of copper that weigh 1,000 tonnes.

1. Statue of Unity, India (182 Meters)

The Statue of Unity sits at the top of the list for being the tallest statue in the world with a whopping height of 182 meters and is located in the state of Gujerat, India. The statue resembles India's nationalist, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (1875-1950), one of the founding fathers of India.

He happens to be India's first Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs after the country's independence. He is well respected for his leadership and for uniting the states which then formed the country, India.

The construction of the statue started in 2013 and was fully completed in 2018. The whole project cost roughly $422 million.
