Unique Concept of Flood Proof Houses in Japan

Floods and other types of natural disasters are considered the most troublesome events to occur that cost the government billions of dollars in damages. Despite the government around the world taking the initiative to reduce those damages, these tragedies have happened repeatedly without showing any signs of it stopping.

Countries like Japan for one is the country that experiences some of the worst floods in the world. Some of the solutions taken by the government were to build the Anti-Flood System. Now a company from Japan has brought us an insight into the new concept of anti-flood that has been developed at such a low cost.

The New Anti-Flood Concept

One of the Japanese housing developers, Inchijo Komuten has launched an anti-flood house that not only acts as waterproof but also floats on top of the water during the intense flood.

Whether you believe it or not with climate change, the loss of homes after a flood is one of the major issues happening everywhere. And while the engineer and architect cracked their heads to find a solution, only some of them were proven to be effective.

Now, a Japanese home developer has set the record claiming to find the answer to preventing water from entering people's residences. This new anti-flood house was aired on a popular Japanese TV show and has gotten the attention of many people since then.

The TBS TV station visited one of the testing sites of Ichijo where these anti-flood houses are located to witness the flooding simulation.

Floating and Does Not Drift Into The Water

If you were to look at the video above, clearly shows the flood simulation being aired on TV. Despite it looking like a regular house when the flood simulation started and water starts to rise around it, the viewers can also see the whole structure leave the ground and ultimately float a few inches on top of the water.

We have all seen floating houses in such a devastating flood but the new invention by Ichijo Komuten company definitely showed their system overcoming it. The house is connected to several thick poles of steel that pop out from the ground with thick cables that ensure the house remains in its position as water starts pouring in.

As the water recedes, the floating house will finally descend to its original position.

Specialized Piping System

This antiflood house is also equipped with special air vents that will shut tight as a flood occurs and the overall piping system has special valves that will stop the water from getting into the house.

Electrical devices like the AC are placed at the top of the house to avoid water from getting into it. According to architect, Inchijo Komuten, most houses start to flood when the water level reaches the window but since their special anti-flood house can float up to 5 meters from the ground, it is very unlikely that the water will reach the window, not to mention everything else that is tightly shut.

The Japanese media reported that customers that wish to construct a house equipped with this system can have it done with an additional cost of 770,000 yen ($5700) which seems very reasonable especially if the whole system truly works.

Inchijo Komuten is one of the biggest housing developers in Japan and has been proud to achieve three Guinness World Records in the past two years in which one of them being for being the best-selling custom home company
