1. Founder of KFC, Harland Sanders started his business by selling chicken in 1930 close to the pump station in Kentucky. The shop used to have the name, Sanders Court & Cafe.

2. Despite using the name Colonel, he is in fact not a colonel in the army. The honorary title was commissioned to him by Governor Ruby Lafoon in 1937 after being known for his fried chicken.


3. KFC's popular dish, the fried bucket was first sold in 1957 which is 15 years after Colonel Sanders started his business.

4. Pete Harman, a friend of Colonel Sanders was the first person to open his own KFC outlet by using the word Kentucky Fried Chicken.

5. Colonel Sanders sold his company to investors in 1964 for the price of $2 million. He agreed to the deal after being offered a lifetime salary and was directly involved with quality control. He also promised to be a part of the marketing for the KFC brand.

6. According to KFC, the secret of the crispy fried chicken was created in 1940.


7. In the beginning, KFC uses the name Kentucky Fried Chicken. However, since the word fried gives the impression that the food being sold is unhealthy, they decided to use the brand name KFC instead.

8. In 2006, KFC built a huge logo with the size of 87,000 square feet in the desert area called Area-51. The massive logo can be seen from space and it is a campaign to introduce their new image.

9. KFC became the first western fast-food chain to enter the Chinese market in 1964. Now there are approximately 4,500 KFC outlets in China.
