The Tragic Death Story of Steve Irwin (Crocodile Hunter)

At the end of the 90s and early 2000, the television series The Crocodile Hunter has become a sensation all over the world. It is a popular documentary regarding wildlife hosted by the late Steve Irwin and his wife, Teri.

It really became a popular series due to the bravery and uniqueness of Steve Irwin while confronting face to face with many wildlife. This concept is very different than other documentaries out there from National Geographic that record their video from far away followed by a background interpreter.

Because of Steve Irwin's bravery, he was well-known by the name "The Crocodile Hunter". Born in Australia, he always had a passion for animals and worked as a zookeeper. His family owns the Australia Zoo which was founded by both his parents.

His parents' love of animals seems to have been inherited by Steve Irwin himself and along with his career, he had become a host for several documentary programs such as The Crocodile Hunter (1996-2007), Croc Files (1999-2001), The Crocodile Hunter Diaries (2002-2006) and New Breed Vets (2005).

The Attack of The Stingray

The job of a host like Steve Irwin is no easy task. This is because he had to confront the wild animals in very close proximity so that the perfect shot can be documented. This includes dangerous and vicious animals like the crocodile.

Unfortunately for him, the incident that took his life shook the whole world to surprise. His death was because of a gigantic stingray that stab him multiple times in the chest. It took place while he was filming for the series Ocean's Deadliest.

Last Moment Of His Death

I'm Dying.

Those were the last words that came out of his mouth after he was attacked by the stingray right into his chest. The tale of his last moment of death was told by the man himself, Justin Lyons the photographer who was assigned to record the documentary.

In fact, the video whereby Steve Irwin was attacked by the stingray managed to be recorded by him. According to Justin Lyons, during the process of the filming, the late Steve Irwin moved out of the big boat into the small boat in preparation for the scene.
Based on the plan, the last moment of the documentary will show the stingray swimming away from Steve who happens to be looking into the ocean. Things were not as planned as the stingray thought that the shadow of Steve Irwin looked like a shark which happens to the prey of the stingray.

The stingray quickly jumped out of the water and starts attacking Steve. Justin who was just prepping for the live shooting did not expect the attack. According to him, in just mere seconds that the creature attacked and stabbed Steve a hundred times. Justin continued with the shooting as he thought that the attack will only cause minor injuries.
But as soon as he puts down his camera, he realized that Steve was standing and covered in a lot of blood. He knew something was definitely not right and said that the fish has stabbed Steve's chest.

More blood spurts out of Steve as he tried to take the sharp tail out. It is not just sharp but jagged making the injury a lot worse for Steve. Steve experienced a two-inch deep wound in his heart and he was transferred into a bigger boat to seek immediate attention.

Justin Lyons added that Steve looked very calm at that moment in time as if he already knew his fate. The video of the incident where Steve was getting attacked by the stingray has never been shared on any platform or social media as a sign of respect to his family. Justin Lyon however handed the footage to Steve's wife.
