5. Thunder Dolphin ($37 million)

This roller coaster has been a part of the entertainment center of Bunkyo, Tokyo which is known as Tokyo Dome City(used to be called Big Egg City). It was officially opened in May 2003 and happens to be a mega roller coaster built by Intamin company and designed by Werner Stengel, a German engineer.

It features a maximum height of 262.5 feet and is the 10th-highest roller coaster in the world. It took an estimated cost of $37 million and it quickly got the attention of tourists around once it was opened.

It also includes a 3,500 feet track that passes a loophole to the LaQua building and also the Ferris wheel of Big-O. One incident took place when one of the bolts on the roller coaster came off and hit a 9-year-old passenger on board.

This results in the roller coaster being close down for 3 years from December 2010 until August 2013.

Not just that but this roller coaster is also the 5th biggest metal roller coaster in the world reaching a peak height of 318.3 feet. Its overwhelming cost is due to where it was built.

3. Expedition Everest ($100 million)

The renowned Expedition Everest used to be the most expensive roller coaster in the world ever since it was opened in 2006 until 2019. It is situated in Disney's Animal Kingdom and it was available for the early birds who possess the annual Disney pass on 26 January 2006.

It was later opened to the public on 7th April. It holds the Guinness World Record for the most expensive roller coaster in the world in 2011. This roller coaster features a steep hike of the replica of Mt. Everest as well as animatronic yeti along the way.

This animatronic yeti comprised a full network of movements using 19 controllers. Unfortunately, after the opening of this roller coaster, the frame that holds the yeti broke apart, and risk the whole roller coaster structure if it was moved.

This roller coaster was specifically in Hogsmeade replacing the Dragon Challenge which had its roller coaster on hold. This roller coaster features an actual tree along its open tracks but also utilizes the story element to improve the passenger's experience.

The roller coaster was opened at the cost of $300 million in June 2019 overthrowing Expedition Everest to become the most expensive roller coaster at that time.

1. Guardian Of The Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind ($500 million)

The most expensive roller coaster ever built will be the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. This attraction is among the newest on this list and it was opened for the early birds of Florida citizens on Mei 2022 before it went public on 27 May.
